Scholar of the Month: Oscar Osorio

My name is Oscar Eduardo Osorio. I am 17 years old and I was born on May 23, 1994 in the city of El Progreso. My sign is Gemini. I have 3 sisters. I am the only boy, thankfully, but I wouldn’t have minded having a brother.

I study in Perla del Ulua High School. This is my last year. One of my goals is to continue with my studies. I will like to study computation and teach in the future.

I like making friends and sharing experiences. I love art; I am part of a marching band at my school. My friends say I'm a good friend. My experience in OYE has been and will be unforgettable because here I have learned many things like public speaking and expressing what I really feel and think. I am part of the art project "La Calle," and in this I can do things like paint my artwork on large walls. OYE has become much more in my life than just an organization.

Mi nombre es Oscar Eduardo Osorio. Tengo 17 anos, nací el 23 de mayo de 1994 en la ciudad de El Progreso. Soy signo géminis, tengo 3 hermanos y soy el único varón afortunadamente; me hubiera gustado tener un hermano.

Estudio en el instituto Perla del Ulúa.  Este es mi último año de la carrera. Una de mis metas es seguir con mis estudios universitarios.

Me gusta hacer amistad y compartir experiencias. Me encanta el arte, formo parte  de una banda de guerra en mi colegio. Mis amigos dicen que soy buen amigo. Mi experiencia en OYE  ha sido y va ser inolvidable ya que aquí he aprendido muchas cosas como ser: hablar el público, expresar lo que en verdad siento y pienso. Formo parte del proyecto de arte “La Calle”, en este puedo hacer lo que en otros lados no hago como dibujar en pared. OYE ha pasado a ser en mi vida mas que una organización.

Becada Del Mes : Ivelis Nieto Villalobos

Charlando un poco con la integrante del proyecto de radio “OYE EL RITMO” Ivelis Nieto, nos compartió de su vida y sus logros académicos que está teniendo en su colegio (Instituto Notre Dame) y de la satisfacción que le dan sus éxitos en su colegio y en OYE, es por tal razón que con un porcentaje de 98% en sus calificaciones de colegio, ha sido seleccionada como la becada del mes.

Comida Favorita: El Pollo horneado, Sopa de frijoles, Baleadas y tajadas de guineo con pollo.

Sus pasatiempos: Escuchar música, enviar mensajes de texto por celular, bailar y cantar.

Sus sueños: Graduarse de Bachiller en ciencias y letras e ir a la universidad; graduarse de Química y farmacia, trabajar, ayudar a sus hermanos y ahorrar para tener sus propias cosas en un futuro.

OYE Scholar of the Month: Jarly

Sizing her up for the first time, many might underestimate Jarly based on her tiny stature and petite frame, but speak to her, and you will find that she is far more than you may have expected. She is intelligent and determined; she knows what she wants and what she needs to do to get it. She cares about Honduras and its future. She is a leader among her peers and serves as a true role model in her community.

Jarly wants more than your typical 22 year old. She wants to create change within her country and she wants to learn more about the system in hopes of changing it. OYE helps her do this. Through OYE Jarly is able to learn the importance of leadership skills and continue her education at the university in San Pedro Sula. At OYE she serves as the coordinator of the radio program OYE El Ritmo and can be described as a mother figure for many of the becados, or OYE scholars. She always has time to listen to their problems or educate them in some way.

Jarly has come a long way from the girl she was when she first walked through OYE’s doors. She is on her way to achieving her dreams thanks to the values and opportunities she has acquired at OYE, which she calls her second home. She has friends and she has a purpose. As a university student she is challenged by her classes, as well as by OYE. Some of her accomplishments within the organization include the fact that her thesis on the political affairs of Honduras was chosen to become a capacity building class for other becados. While her situation is difficult and money is tight, Jarly has learned to make the best of what she has, not only for herself, but for others who depend on her as well. It is easy to see that she is persistent, reliable, and part of the glue that holds her family together, at home and at OYE.
