Attention: OYE YOUTH ARE AT IT AGAIN

Check out OYE's latest progress report for Global Giving.  See the latest pictures and read the latest updates. Marathons, Soccer tournaments, Murals, and Yoga are just a few of the activities your favorite scholars have been challenging themselves with.

Here at OYE we are especially proud of Paola and Eric who pushed new boundries and defied the Honduran law of the SUN (Stay out of it!). Taking OYE's mantra of a heathly lifestyle to the next level these brave young scholars ran 13 miles in the blazing Honduran sun.

In other news, OYE is proud to announce a youth social media project in collaboration with Adobe. OYE scholars, after a rigorous training program, will teach 50 Progreseño youth the ins and outs of Adobe's latest photo and video editing software.  The ultimate goal of this project is not to learn how to use this software but to put the software to work through the creation of empowering youth projects. So stay tuned for updates and to see the incredible finished projects that OYE's youth create.

Race 4 OYE!

Yesterday, June 26th, Team OYE participated in the Maraton Internacional de La Prensa in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. The events were a 10.5 km race and a 21 km run around the city of San Pedro Sula. Iloany Ochoa, Sandra Hadith Alvarado, Riley Leonard, Jackie Krizovensky ran the 10.5 km race and Michael Solis, Demetri Lopez, and Ana Luisa Ahern finished the 21 km half marathon. Coty Mayo, Fabiola Oro and Edoardo Umanzor cheered Team OYE on as we ran in the San Pedro Sula sun. The weather on race day was a cool 90 degrees F with high humidity making it feel like 101! Team OYE managed to stay hydrated and make it across the finish line with proud smiles. Together the team fundraised over $5,000 for OYE's programs! Thank you to all of Race 4 OYE's supporters and fans for making this event such an incredible success! Check out the runnner's blogs: Michael, Mechie & Ana. One day left in the Challenge, help keep OYE in FIRST PLACE!

OYE is participating in the YouthActionNet online fundraising challenge through GlobalGiving. In the past few days Team OYE has made a meteoric rise to first place, raising over $5,000 from over 100 people! Thanks to your generous support, we're still in first place. But there is still ONE DAY and 9 hours hours left in the challenge, and the other teams are hot on our heels. Help keep OYE in first by donating online and telling your friends and family to help out as well! Post it to your Facebook page, your Twitter, call your family, anything you can do will help us maintain our position. A donation of as little as $5 will go a long way to help support these amazing young people in El Progreso. The deadline is tomorrow, March 31st, at midnight! Thank you for all your support!

COPA OYE championship

As many of you have seen and heard Honduras is in the mist of a political termoil.  We are all safe, but pretty frustrated with the situation.  The air is full of hope and fear. As we watch and wait we are aware that for these youth OYE is all they have, because do to strikes in the education system schools have been close for the last two weeks. Thus, we continue with youth projects and activities. The most exciting by far is the championship of the COPA OYE soccer league.

Here are some pictures from the day.

The Women's final- La Perla vs. Chevez

Men's final-La Perla vs. Holy Spirit

There was standing room only at Gol Sport, and not much of it.

Chevez wins the girls cup with style.

La Perla, Men's league winners, celebrating after an intense game with Holy Spirit.

More from COPA OYE

The OYE womens team!
We were joined by some friendly faces-OYE women from Las Panchas, and COPROME.

The team in action against El Perla de Ulua.

The tournament has had three action filled weekends with both mens and womens games. The excitement continues to grow! Teams have begun showing up to other teams games to cheer them on and scout out competitors.

In other big news, OYE is going to celebrate its fourth anniversary in June! Which means we are going to pack June full of fun events for the students and community. Our month long celebration will begin on the 4th with OYE el Ritmo anniversary concert!

On the June 4th, local high schools will present dances of all types, including hip hop, modern, and  folklore/traditional. OYE student band, Abreak Elhoe, which was formed last year to play at the third anniversary concert will rock it again this year! After that OYE will be presenting the  bands Estrellato, a punk rock boys band, Lita Garifuna, a traditional coastal percussion group, and then Polache, a raising star, will finish the concert.

If you are anywhere near El Progreso, Honduras join us to celebrate OYE's four incredible years of service and community building.

Hope to see you there!

COPA OYE kickoff

Last Saturday OYE launched the first ever official COPA OYE youth soccer tournament. Turning the local Canchita (soccer field) into a celebration of athleticism and community. OYE invited high schools, local NGO's, and neighborhood teams to participate. In all, there are 11 boys teams and 8 girls teams equaling over 150 participants.

OYE students worked on banners and other decorations to help prepare for the big day.

More than 100 people were in attendance for the big day. There was music, dancing, cheering and a nail biting soccer match.

Memo defending OYE's Goal. The first game was between OYE and San Alberto Hurtado (another local scholarship program). It was a close game but in the end San Alberto Hurtado walked away with the win.

Along with all the festivities, Jóvenes Magazine made it's public debut!

The tournament will run for the next three months. Alternating every weekend between the mens teams and the womens teams. For more picture of click here, COPA OYE photos

Next week OYE's women will step on the feild....stay tuned.
